Are Parchment Baking Paper Compostable?
(Source: If you care)
If You Care, a brand known for its eco-friendly kitchen products, began its journey in 1990 with a simple yet revolutionary idea: unbleached coffee filters. At that time, they were the only brand in North America offering unbleached coffee filters, setting a new standard for environmentally conscious products.
Shortly after, they expanded their product line to include Parchment Baking Paper and Baking Cups, both unbleached and free from chlorine—a rarity in the North American market. What sets If You Care apart is their commitment to creating household products that minimize environmental impact while delivering top-notch performance.
Each item is designed with sustainability in mind, from their unbleached materials to their low-carbon production process. In 2016, they introduced another innovation: Parchment Roasting Bags, the first non-stick roasting bags made from parchment, offering an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastic options.
According to their philosophy, nothing should remain once a product has been used and properly disposed of. Even the packaging is made from recycled, unbleached cardboard or paper, encouraging consumers to recycle it again.
With such a strong focus on sustainability, we were curious: can Reencle compost If You Care’s Parchment Baking Paper?
(Source: If you care)
How did it go?
We tested it with 6 layers of baking papers all together.
On the first day, we already noticed a reduction of volume. But we can obviosuly see it's there.
On day 5, we could see most of the baking papers hve been torn into pieces.
On day 20, Most of the baking papers turned into Soil like compost.
Conclusion
This experiment shows that If You Care’s Parchment Baking Paper is not only compostable but also an excellent source of brown matter for Reencle. It’s a win for sustainability and an exciting discovery for Reencle users looking to expand their composting capabilities.
