Why winter composting is important?

Dear Reencle Enthusiasts,

As we transition into the colder months, with temperatures falling and daylight hours shortening, the task of managing an outdoor compost pile can become markedly less appealing. Winter undoubtedly imposes challenges on the composting process: the availability of organic material from gardens or local sources dwindles, and the cooler conditions significantly decelerate the microbial activity within compost piles. It is widely acknowledged that biological activity in soil diminishes once temperatures fall below 45°F (7°C), leading to a period of dormancy for the soil and its microbial inhabitants throughout the winter. Despite this, with appropriate measures, soil quality can indeed improve during these colder months

Dear Reencle Enthusiasts, As we transition into the colder months, with temperatures falling and daylight hours shortening, the task of managing an outdoor compost pile can become markedly less appealing.

This brings us to a critical consideration: Is it advisable to neglect composting activities during winter, only to resume in the spring?

We recognize the challenges that come with composting during the winter months. The cold weather presents significant hurdles in maintaining the optimal temperature and humidity levels essential for effective composting. The physical act of mixing compost becomes a more strenuous task due to the hardened materials and reduced microbial activity. Additionally, compost piles during this time can become attractants to wildlife, including bears, seeking food sources. In fact, one of our Reenclers had a dangerous experience that bears dig up the compost.

Nonetheless, with Reencle, the process of creating compost indoors becomes remarkably straightforward. We invite you to review the following guidelines carefully, designed to facilitate your indoor composting journey with ease and efficiency.

To conclude, don’t give up making compost during winter.
With Reencle, you will always be able to get valuable compost for your garden.
